Pharmaceutical patents are related to inventions of the pharmaceutical industry and may protect products, such as chemical or biological molecules, medical devices, implants, healing materials, etc .; manufacture process, or uses related to the prevention, treatment, and/or control of diseases, affection, symptoms, signs, etc. They must meet the patentability criteria for novelty, inventive step and industrial application.

The methods of surgical, therapeutic or diagnostic treatment applicable to the human body and those relating to animals shall not be considered patentable; and the juxtaposition of known inventions or mixtures of known products, their variation in use, shape, dimensions or materials, unless in reality they are their combination or fusion in such a way that they cannot function separately or that the qualities or functions characteristic of the same are modified to obtain an industrial result or an use not obvious to a person skilled in the art.
